KFP Workshops in Peru

Chaulttie, Peru

May 2002

A Kids For Peace workshop was held with local villagers in Chaulttie, Peru. This small village is located high up in the Andes and is known for its fine traditional hand weaving.These indigenous families are decedents of the Inca and most had never painted before.Twelve dynamic naive tiles for peace were created with images of local landscape and native animals like the Llama.

The tiles were brought back to Los Angeles for exhibition. Numerous postcards were created and left with the families along with all the supplies. (Paints, brushes, permanent markers, feathers, sequins and about five hundred blank postcards).

Postcard for Peace workshop was held at the Casa de la Memoria de Al-Andalus located in the center of the Barrio Santa Cruz in Seveille, Spain. This center for Sephardic and Moorish art was once a 14th century Jewish home and was the perfect location for the workshop. Families and tourists from France, Italy and all parts of Spain participated. Half of the postcards made were given to the Mission of Spain for exhibition.

Postcard For Peace and Kids For Peace workshops were held in Madrid at Colegio Publico Alberto Alcocer with a first grade class. Nadine Mercado assisted Gayle in the workshops.Twenty new tiles were made for the mural and given to the Spanish Ministry to exhibit in Geneva, Switzerland at the United Nations.

Over 100 dynamic postcards for peace were also made. One third of the postcards were kept by the participants, one third to the Mission of Spain and one third were brought back to America for exhibition and given to kids in Los Angeles.

KFP Chanukah Celebration

Phil Blazer and the Jewish News presented Chanukah at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Over 500 participated in the making of peace postcards and dreidels in this Kids For Peace workshop.
